Nicholas Hare Architects are working with Skanska to design the new Woodlands School, a 1500 pupil secondary specialising in performing arts in Basildon, Essex. Planning permission was passed just before Christmas and we start on site this Spring.
The design aims to create a compact new facility with a central dining and performance atrium acting as a dynamic focus to the school. The building form aims to make the most of a large, park-like site and is orientated to collect students arriving from the north as well as reaching out to the west where a new vehicular entrance to the site is proposed.
This project is part of Wave 4 of the Essex County Council's Building Schools for the Future Programme which sees Nicholas Hare Architects design a further 2 schools in the area.
Woodlands School is a finalist in the 2013 Construction News : BIM Initiative of the year Awards.
