Nicholas Hare Architects' Blackburn Central High School with Crosshill is handed over to the Local Authority this week. The new, 960 pupil, secondary and special needs school has a dramatic presence overlooking the town. Inside, homebases and a large atrium heart space, structure an educationally-focussed design.

The School also includes a series of unusual facilities such as a terrace on top of the sports hall, an Opening Minds pod and a Life Skills flat and is due to open to students in early September.
