At a lunch time ceremony on the 42nd floor of the Leadenhall building with spectacular views of London, The David Attenborough Building was pronounced winner of the best Education project at the Schüco Excellence Award 2017. The awards are run in association with RIBA Journal and have won the respect of the UK building industry because of the high quality of the submissions they routinely attract.

The judging panel, which included architects and façade experts, were looking for evidence of innovation, technical excellence and collaboration. The judges were impressed with how the glazing system had been used by NHA and the specialist subcontractors, Prism Architectural Ltd, to improve the building's energy performance and give a complex and iconic building a whole new lease of life.

Carol Lelliott and David Lowe accepted the award for NHA. David, an NHA associate and the lead architect for the project, noted that it had been a particular challenge to capture the essence of the 1960s bespoke glazing sections and so preserve the integrity of the original design intent.
