Aylesbury Vale Academy with Berryfields Primary

Buckinghamshire

Initially appointed with BAM construction to design and construct the new Aylesbury Vale Academy, NHA’s role was expanded to include the design of Berryfields, a co-located primary school with a community nursery.

The schools are the first community facilities to be built to serve the new Berryfields estate, a development of 3000 homes which is growing up around them.  They create a nucleus around which other community and retail facilities will be located. The buildings are linked together to form the first street frontage to a planned village green and were completed in 2013.

Both schools are sponsored by the Church of England Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire County Council.

The academy buildings accommodate 1,500 students from 11 to 18. The sports facilities and main hall link the two schools and a separate entrance allows them to be used independently by the community for recreation and performance events.

Berryfields is a two-form entry primary school with a 52 place nursery and integral Children’s Centre. A suite of community spaces allows for future expansion of the school without disruption and includes a children’s library.

We are thrilled with the result which provides a top class learning environment for our students right across the curriculum.
