Designing for longevity or deconstruction: Is it a choice?

Should new buildings be designed for long life with built-in adaptability for future re-use: or designed for a limited lifespan and ready deconstruction? The circular economy makes a lot of sense for many industries, but is it the right approach for building design where reducing embodied energy, often through building re-use, is an equally strong aspiration?

This is the fourth year Nicholas Hare Architects are hosting an evening of debate in our studio during Green Sky Thinking Week, a week-long, London-wide events programme for built environment and property professionals, organised by Open-City.

Speakers include
David Cheshire: AECOM
Richard Partington: Studio Partington
Jon Baker: Nomas
Peter Fisher: Bennetts Associates
Tim Mander: Integral Engineering Design
