We are delighted that our scheme for the RSPCA Animal Centre of the Future has been announced as one of three shortlisted projects in the RIBA-run competition.

Architects were challenged to create a design for the charity's centres of the future which would put animal welfare at their heart, as well as being sustainable and inspiring for staff and visitors.

A modular approach to construction was encouraged and our scheme is designed so that it can be built on different sites - an agile approach that can be manipulated to address any topography or circumstance. An adaptable collection of modest buildings can be arranged in different configurations to suit variations in levels, solar orientation or noise adjacencies.

Made from prefabricated CLT (cross laminated timber) elements, panels can be used to create walls and roofs without the need for a supporting frame. Whilst growing, the timber absorbs carbon and subsequently greatly reduces the embodied carbon of the completed building.
