Chafford Hundred Learning Campus

Chafford Hundred Campus was a pioneering project – a pathfinder for what has now become known as an extended school. It sought to make seamless the transition between the primary and secondary stages and to place the school at the heart of its local community. The Campus received the Civic Trust Centre Vision Award for the project which contributed most to the revitalisation of a community.

The original brief was to combine a new nursery, primary school, secondary school and public library on a single site and to open the building for adult education.  As well as acting as a centre for lifelong learning, the building was designed to accommodate all community activities from recreational sport to local theatre productions, concerts and exhibitions.

Since then the Campus has flourished and been extended to increase the capacity of both the secondary and primary schools and to provide a free-standing sixth form centre. The new extensions have all followed the site strategy set out in the original masterplan for the project.

The campus is now part of the Harris Academy Federation.

The building is brilliant - I can’t fault it.
