Milton Keynes Museum

Wolverton

As part of the celebrations to mark the 50th year anniversary of the creation of Milton Keynes, we are proud to have created a unique and spirited public building celebrating the history and civic pride of the local community. This expansion has transformed the Milton Keynes Museum into a national attraction welcoming more than 100,000 visitors a year.

By carefully integrating the new building into the historic site the new design completely restructures the visitor experience into a fully chronologically ordered visit from the ancient history of this locality to the creation of the modern Milton Keynes.

As part of the Willmott Dixon team we delivered two galleries and the new main entrance within a sculpturally formed building set into the existing landscape. The expansion also provided a new archive facility with full humidity control.

The project has been made possible through funding from Milton Keynes Council and Arts Council England.

We don't want to be like any other museum. We want to produce something that, like the present museum, has heart and soul.
Bill Griffiths, Milton Keynes Museum Director
This expansion is a tremendous opportunity to build high quality galleries and revitalise the experience for visitors.
