Pathology Laboratories

Both of our projects for the University's Pathology Department involved extensions to the original 1930s building.

The second phase consisted of a lightweight extension to make new laboratories at roof level. This was done while long-term experimental work continued on the floors below, requiring very careful planning in terms of structure, services and logistics.

The internal layout comprises a main laboratory with several tissue culture rooms. The structure of the roof level extension is carried on a grid of steel beams that transfers the loadings to the outside walls of the existing building below.
