Brompton Academy

Gillingham, Kent

The Brompton Academy, sponsored by the University of Kent was one of the three new academies designed and constructed for Medway Council in partnership with BAM.

The site is on the edge of the World Heritage Site, The Great Lines and the 5 mini-schools forming the academy are arranged in an open court with views over the park.

The large majority of the accommodation is new build and was constructed using the same fast track techniques developed for Strood Academy utlising brick clad precast prefabricated external wall panels in conjunction with an in-situ concrete frame. At Brompton, the new entrance to the academy, designed to enhance community use is distinguished by the curving form of the library/LRC which is clad in white concrete.

Architecturally stunning and thoughtfully designed our buildings provide the ideal setting for an innovative contemporary education

The building is just brilliant and brings tears to my eyes - it feels so chilled, warm and emotionally uplifting. Great design inside and out.
