Charities Aid Foundation Headquarters

Kings Hill, Kent

The building was designed to suit the specific needs of the Charities Aid Foundation, and the general requirements of developer Rouse Kent. It reconciled the need for flexibility - for open or cellular offices - with a generally 'green' approach. The office spaces have opening windows and the exposed concrete soffit (which received a Concrete Society award) contributes to thermal stability and comfort.

The painted concrete ceiling has shallow saucer-domes following the 1.5m planning grid. On the top floor, some of these are omitted to form circular openings which provide natural lighting to the central spaces from rooflights at the apex of the pitched roof.
