Nicholas Hare Architects are thrilled to announce that our Caterpillar Bridge for Amsterdam model is going to be exhibited in this year's Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy (4 June - 12 August)

We submitted our proposal for the Iconic Amsterdam Bridge competition in March, working with our friends at Integral Engineering.

The inspiration is the humble caterpillar - a marvel of natural engineering: a number of articulated joints with muscles between allowing the full length of the creature to be raised from the pivot point of its hind legs and the anchor supported by its anal claspers.

It was a wholly collaborative progress with everyone in the office getting involved and out of around 15 ideas, the Caterpillar was democratically voted in.
