Education Centre

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

The new education centre is dedicated to vocational training and continuing professional development. It is attached to the main college buildings in Regent's Park and located predominantly below ground to preserve the existing garden and to respond to its highly sensitive context within the Westminster and Regents Park Conservation Area.

A 230-seat lecture theatre sits beneath the garden. Its 2-storey foyer links to the main stair and lift of the existing building at basement level.  Two levels of seminar and demonstration rooms surround the central atrium, which is lit by a conical rooflight surrounded by a ring of water.

Above ground a new glazed garden pavilion also includes a meeting and seminar room. Its roof forms a terrace for the President’s suite of rooms in the exiting building.

Garden

The roof to the underground seminar rooms comprises a podium lawn with the conical roof light at its centre. A stone pergola defines its edge and frames views of the Park beyond.  The lawn connects by a continuous flight of steps to the more densely planted garden surrounding it

A delightful building, brilliantly executed and without pretention or fuss.
