Dining Hall, Felsted School

The Lord Riche Dining Hall was our first project at Felsted School, a 600-pupil independent secondary school in Essex. 

The hall is arranged for serving food to the whole school population, both for formal meals and also for self-service. The hall is flooded with daylight from high-level windows cut into the simple roof form, which echoes those of neighbouring East Anglian barns. The acoustically-absorbent roof lining and the timber floor and panelling give warmth to the space.

We subsequently returned to Felsted to complete their new Music School, which adjoins the dining hall, creating a new landscaped court at the heart of the school.
