Reckitt House, Leighton Park School

Reckitt House followed School House as the second of the boarding houses we designed at Leighton Park. The building occupies a quiet position on the edge of the school site. The south-facing courtyard forms the focus of the scheme, with the main stair, dining room and other communal rooms all facing into it. The houses of the housemaster and assistant housemaster are placed at either end of the U-shaped plan, giving both necessary contact with the main house and an adequate degree of privacy.

In these buildings we see two faces of the liberal progressive wing of Modernism... The greatest strengths of both buildings are in the complex internal arrangements and the pleasant communal spaces.
