O2 Headquarters

Bath Road, Slough

We were appointed by SEGRO to design a landmark HQ building for the mobile phone giant O2/Telefonica. The brief asked for a 10,000 sq.m., four-storey open plan office with emphasis on energy saving-measures in line with O2's stated aim to become a zero-carbon company.

The design fulfilled the requirements of two challenging briefs, one from the developer client SEGRO and one from the future tenant/end-user O2: a building that would function both as a physically connected campus style structure for O2 as well as a stand-alone office building in its own right, should O2's requirements change in the future.

The cantilevered roof adds a dynamic and exciting feature to the Bath Road streetscape, whilst the external envelope of reconstituted stone panels adds delight with a constantly changing play of shadows on the highly-articulated windows through the day.

O2's new home represents an important step in the history of the business and delivers a fantastic working environment for our employees.

Sustainability

The building envelope was designed to minimise solar gains via the use of vertical fin external shading, solar performance glazing and reducing the proportion of glazed areas on those elevations most exposed to high solar gains – the design of each elevation responding to its specific orientation.
